Last week we were busy with the things which in Leppävirta happened and the media reception about it. We received lots of comments, some constructive, some offensive. Now the hype comes to an end and the situation calms down. So the finnish police does - they informed the public that all investigations concerning the german rower group will be ceased.

"The prosecutor has decided to end the preliminary investigation into an illegal camp set up by German tourists in the yard of a private cottage in Leppävirta, eastern Finland. The police decided the investigation had to stop as it was taking up resources that were not commensurate with the seriousness of the crime."

You can read the YLE News article here.

We think that this is a good decision which underlines that the police is not affected by the commotion we experienced in the finnish media and society. Sergeant Ari Hautala of the North Savo police said: “Nobody was hurt, and property was not damaged.”  He also stated that with consideration of the seriousness of the crime, the investigation could not reasonably continue.

Apart from that, it's quite ashaming that the german tourists did not contact the finnish police yet with a view to clear the issue. In retrospect these german rowers really seem to be unsocial individuals and their attempt to apologize is not credibly anymore. We are afraid they behave like that in Germany as well!

Thank you for your attention so far!
